Timing of attaching and removing the fins

Hello.
A free diver from Okinawa.Like thisis.
This time, I would like to introduce some things that I think you should keep in mind in order to enjoy skin diving.
What I want to tell you this time is,Timing of fin removal,is.
No no no, what are you talking about now?🤷♂️I can hear a reaction like this😂
This applies to both free diving and skin diving, but you want to take good care of your equipment without damaging it, right?
When do you put on your fins and when do you take them off?
I am,I go to a place where the water is deep enough, put on my fins, and then take them off just as my feet are about to touch the ground. It's not always possible to do this at every point, but I try to do so as much as possible.
The reason is that you don't want to damage your wetsuit or fins as much as possible, you don't want to injure yourself, and there's a risk of stepping on the coral.
You may see people sitting on the shore or in shallow water putting on and taking off their fins. That in itself is not bad. It also gives you a sense of security knowing that you can touch the ground with your feet.
However, depending on the conditions, the areas where you can stand or sit on the water may be affected by waves. If you are affected by waves, you will have to keep your balance to avoid falling over, especially if you are already wearing a fin on one foot.
There is a risk of stepping on the coral beneath your feet while trying to maintain your balance.
If you lose your balance and fall, you could get injured and your wetsuit could tear.
There is also a risk of damaging equipment such as cameras that you are holding.
In the worst case scenario, the waves can make it difficult for you to move, and you may not be able to move properly without help from others.
You came to the beach to enjoy the ocean, but if it turns out like this, you can't enjoy it to the fullest.😔
To prevent this from happening, we recommend that you be able to attach and remove your fins while floating.
The steps I take to enter are basically as follows:
- Wear a mask
- Hold the snorkel
- Walk until you reach a place that is deep enough. When the water is about up to your crotch, float to the surface and kick the bottom to move.
- When the water gets deeper than 1.5m to 2m, take off your sandals and put on fins.
At first you may be worried about not being able to touch the ground with your feet, and it may take some getting used to, but you will be able to enter the water much safer than if you were in a situation where you could only put on your fins while sitting, no matter which point you go to.
It's just a matter of timing when you put on and take off your fins, but with a little bit of awareness you might be able to enjoy the ocean even more than before.😌
Give it a try!🙌
By the way, UMMYFin socksThe seams are neat and the toes are split, so you can wear sandals securely even with the fin socks on! They protect your feet until you put on your fins. These fin socks are highly recommended for those who can't live without socks.🧜♀️🧜♂️
